The Kuth Awendo Resource Centre

The Kuth Awendo Resource Centre is a community hub located in Ayweyo, Kenya, initiated in 2019 by CIVS Kenya in collaboration with the local community with a goal to build and strengthen community capacity for self-reliance and better living standard. The approach is to demonstrate how to use local resources for community development
Key Programs and Facilities
Model Farm: An agricultural unit providing practical training in farming and agri-business to improve
food security and income. The farm serves as a demonstration site for growing resilient, nutrient
dense crops suited to the local climate. These include: Staple & Root Crops: Heavily focusing on high
yield and drought-tolerant staples like cassava, potatoes, and bananas. The installation of
greenhouses has significantly boosted agricultural yield, enabling controlled environment farming and
steady food production outside traditional rainy seasons

Early Childhood Development (ECD): The Kuth Awendo Resource Centre operates an integrated Early Childhood Development (ECD) and Kindergarten program tailored to support young children within the local community. The center runs a kindergarten for approximately 90 children aged between 3 and 7 years. The program specifically focuses on children who are vulnerable to poverty and orphans. The centre provides free Education & Materials: Attending children receive free early childhood education, giving them foundational learning before entering primary school
Nutritional Feeding Program: Alongside the children learning, the children receive free meals through the center's school feeding program. This plays a critical role in tackling food insecurity and supporting early development
Local Groups & Agri-Business Training: The Centre operates as a structured classroom for both youth and local community groups (such as local widows' associations and dedicated agricultural groups) who gather weekly to troubleshoot challenges
Meeting spaces: The Kuth Awendo Resource Centre acts as a safe, central meeting hub that provides dedicated spaces for local groups to connect, collaborate, and address community challenges. These spaces give marginalized community members a structured platform to discuss shared socio-economic hurdles, coordinate mutual aid, and organize local developmental initiative
